FCN IN CUMBRIA
The FCN group in Cumbria was born in July 2004 and we were initially hosted at the Westmorland Show that year by Barclays Bank who kindly sponsored us at the start. Since then we have been supported by Cumbria Community Foundation and The Hadfield Trust. This kind of support has been invaluable in these times. We now are pleased to say that our list of friends and sponsors has widened especially amongst those in the Church in Cumbria. We are all extremely grateful for your support in both your thoughts and prayers, and the giving of financial help.
Our group of volunteers is now 16 strong and we are always on the lookout for new volunteers. We have busy times and sometimes quiet too. The type of work is reflected mainly by what is happening on a national level. Single Farm Payment. - slowness of payment affecting cash flow. Foot & Mouth and Bluetongue - causing movement restrictions and disruption of markets. New regulations continually being thrust upon us from the European Union - causes more paperwork for an overstretched industry which has a high age profile. We support farmers in dealing with these and many other problems. Our volunteers have different skills for dealing with some of these issues e.g. farm secretarial, bereavement counselling, funding providers, animal health, and general farming experience. Our work is all about helping those who struggle to keep pace with the everyday pressures of modern farming. We mainly hand hold farmers through situations while professional people deal with the root of the problem. We are constantly looking out for professionals who are willing to help us for a short time now and again just to kick start a process for moving a family forward when the going is tough. Anyone who thinks they can be of assistance in any way can contact me.
